Here it is. I’ve been waiting a while to see this movie, as all Star Wars fans have. No one really knew how this movie was going to go, being set between episode 3 and 4. It was either going to be really good or really bad.
So for all of you wondering which ‘really’ it is i present to you,
ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, REVIEW
Director: Gareth Edwards. I need to add that choosing a fan of the movies to direct was such a good decision! He grew up watching the movies and you can see that by the easter eggs he has put throughout the film and the style the film is shot in/made.
Description: The movie opens on research scientist Galen Erso being captured by the empire who need his help to build their new super weapon. He leaves behind his daughter Jyn Erso.
13 years later Jyn is called in by the rebellion who have heard of a new super weapon being built by Jyn’s father. They believe Jyn is the only person who can get through to him. Jyn must also prove her father’s innocence and help destroy the weapon before it is to late.
Together with the help of a rebel officer, his droid, a blind warrior a mercenary and a defected rebel pilot she sets out on a dangerous mission.
The Movie has been getting some pretty positive reviews and has been likened to quality of the original trilogy. It is a fantastic stand alone movie but also fits into the trilogy really well. It has been referred to as ‘Star Wars 3.9’. Here’s why it’s considered so good:
Plot: This plot works so well. It addresses a lot of questions that fans have asked for ages and also isn’t the traditional Hollywood blockbuster style of emotional moment, battle, confession of love, battle, end. It is done more in the style of Episode 4 and 5 it doesn’t gloss over the dialogue and skip to the battle scenes, it focuses on each point.
The closer to the end of the movie the more the plot starts to add up as well. The plot in this movie fills some plotholes in other movies as well and it is done smoothly and seamlessly. The plot is highly engaging and the last 20 minutes of the movie have the audience on the edge of their seat.
Characters: Jyn is up there with Leia, she is a well developed character and does everything with a fierce determination. She has a great perslonality, she’s funny, determined, strong and she’s been hardened from living under the empire’s rule. She’s a perfect heroine, a mixture of Katniss Everdeen and Princess Leia.
2 other characters that were really good were the rebel officer Cassian and his droid K-2SO. Cassian is everything you’d want in a rebel leader. He’s smart, a brilliant tactician, a good pilot and loyal to the rebellion. His character is immediately likable even though he’s done some pretty horrible stuff in his time for the rebellion. His droid is great, every movie they bring out of Star Wars, the droids are funnier and more human. K-2SO likes to say percentages like C-3PO but is as sassy as R2-D2 and BB-8.
This movie fits really well into the original trilogy and can be watched by anyone but has plenty of easter eggs for fans. In terms of how good this is, i would say it is better than the prequels and episode 7. It is as good as episode 4. So… i highly recommend it, go watch it!
I’d like to take a moment for Carrie Fisher, who passed away this morning as well. She was a fantastic actor and has influenced my life since i was little. Rest in Peace Carrie.
